Why Is My Tooth Socket Still Bleeding 8 Hours After Extraction, And Could Smoking Be The Cause?

Hi I wondered if you could help me. I had a tooth out at 11.15 this morning and 8 hours after the socket is till bleeding. I m a smoker and have had several cigarettes after even though it advisers you not to, is this the reason why it s bleeding? also I haven t had anything to eat or drink since the surgery would I be able to have little sips off Lucozade?
