Why Is The Area Near Subcutaneous Gluteal Abscess Hard?

I had a subcutaneous gluteal abcess, and got an Incision and Drainage more than a week ago. They last removed the gauze two days ago and said it was ready to heal. Today I noticed that around the area of the whole, it is hard all around. What does this mean?
