Why Is The Skin On My Buttocks Peeling?

The area in between my butt cheeks has been bright pink for a few months now; the skin peels every few days, and the area can be quite itchy. I haven't changed soap recently, and shower frequently. For about 4 weeks I've been drying the area carefully and ensuring it's kept clean, and I have tried using canesten cream in case it's some form of yeast infection.

What do you think could be causing this, and should I see my GP?
