Will Grommets In Ear Help In Curing Ear Pain And Infected Ear In An Infant?

i have a 12 month old son who has a hearing of 101 in his left ear. his ear pains at night due to the pressure of the liquid in his ear. his doctor suggested we put grommets in his left ear - will it help? his ear got infected when he started teething. please advise. thanks
