Will Taking Contraceptive Right After Periods Be Effectual?

was taking contraceptive ridgevidon pill for a month and then just doubled up and did another half a month but then came off, had period straight away and then 5 days later started taking pill again will I be protected straight away or do I have to wait 7 days?
