Will Taking Pill To Postpone Periods Stop Periods?

HI, i am due to go on holiday on friday,am not on the pill.
i want to postpone my period for this time when we are away but as i missed 2 periods due to unknown reasons- doc didnt know why, they have been irregular. if i start taking the pill now whilst not on period will this stop my period
