Would It Be Harmful To Treat A Red Bump Like An Ingrown Hair?

I have a red bump( up towards my pubic hair line) on my Genital area (I'm female) and I know it's not an STD because I've never had Sex. I'm thinking it could just be a ingrown hair, it doesn't hurt and kind of looks like a pimple. Would it be harmful at all to treat it like an ingrown hair?
