A Lump On The Inside Of The Neck Recently Started

a lump on the inside of the neck recently started getting larger and painful after having a cold. Went to Dr. who suggested maybe a cyst and to get it checked out further. It has now made a hole and draining puss on the outside of the neck. what can be done to hold over until able to get to a Dr.
