After Encountering Gout About For The First Time Around 2000,
after encountering gout about for the first time around 2000, I was put on Alopurinol and told by my Dr that was all that could be done and I suffered with gout attacks about every 3 months until about May 2009 when a worst than normal attack forced me into an emergency center on crutches where the attending Dr. confirmed gout and gave me a prescription for colchisine for gout and within 2 hours after starting the RX, I could walk again and all symtoms were gone the next day. I was gout free until about 6 months ago. The first Rx cost about $5. in 2000, the last Rx was called Colcrys and cost about $180 and did not work as well as the original. The pharmacist told me that it had been reformulated and patented so that the patent holder could set the higher price. How can this be possible to have poorer product for a higher price? It did work after 3 days instead of a couple of hours.
