After Open Heart Surgery, The Surgeon Said That The Patient

after open heart surgery, the surgeon said that the patient had a small heart and that he wasn't able to correct two of the clogged arteries which are 85 percent clogged. Are there not ways to determine this before surgery? What are the consequences? How common is this?
