HGood Afternoon: I Am Not A Victim Of Schizophrenia, But

hGood afternoon: I am not a victim of schizophrenia, but my 65 year old daughter has been battling paranoid schizophrenia for many years, but has been in denial. I am a 92 year old veteran of WWII and am having trouble sleeping at night because Michele is soon to find herself in dire straits. She is presently residing in Kearny, NJ, but is facing eviction by the end of this month by a long suffering landlord who has reported that his other tenants have notified him that either he gets rid of my daughter or they will move out of the apartment house. It has become obvious to me that she can no longer manage her affairs. She thinks all she has to do is find herself another apartment. I informed her that no other landlord would even consider taking in a new tenant w/o solid references and, of course, they will not be provided by her current landlord. I fear that she will become a street person with a very short lifeline. She has already fell victim to a host of con artists who have managed to take all the money she gets from SSI. I have contacted the New Jersey Dept. of Health & Welfare and asked them to intervene on her behalf. I have implored them to at least find a homeless shelter for her, preferably one that is operated by a religious organization such as the Salvation Army. A better outcome would find her residence in a group home for similar afflicted females wherein she could receive counseling and medication. Either my son or I have put in calls to DHHS in New Jersey on an almost daily basis but so far there has been no response. So far there have only been empty promises that they were on her case and would provide us with their findings promptly. But this pattern has been going on for two weeks and time is running out on my daughter. I had hoped to find an advocacy organization that could bring pressure to bear on DHHS in NJ, but so far I have not found any beyond yourself. Thomas B. Martin
