Hello My Husband Has An Ongoing Problem With His Left

hello my husband has an ongoing problem with his left foot and tibia. he fractured the same foot about two years ago also but seemed to heal fine at that time and didnt have further complications, so no surgery was needed.
at the begininng of August, he injured the same foot while cutting grass, a blade punctured the same foot above his ankle, that healed pretty quickly with no apparent infection. however.. his foot is very painful for him. he has intermitten pain and a shock like feeling throughout his entire leg. i can tell he is in legitimate pain, because he is hardly able to walk on the foot..
also, there seem to be some sort of vericose looking veins, however they are accompanied by a green, blue and purple colors. it is difficult to explain but it has spread upward from the puncture somewhat, just a couple of inches. the majority of the discoloration and vein like things i described seem to be headed toward the toes of his left foot and in between the worst. PLEASE HELP ME TO KNOW IF I NEED TO TAKE MY HUSBAND TO THE ER before his apt t the doctor on monday?
