I Am A 68 Year Old Male Who Is A

i am a 68 year old male who is a diabetic. i have been type 2 since 2000 but recently because of my higher A1C levels being in the 9 range I have begun taking insulin. i currently am suffering from the affects of a flu shot and a cold along with allergies. My blood sugar has been gong crazy with every reading being in the high 200's and occasionally in the 300's. My once a day (at night) insulin injection is at 23 units and still no improvement on my blood sugar readings. I was instructed to increase my insulin units by 1 unit each day my readings remain above 180. I am frustrated that nothing is happening , no improvement at all. Is this because I am fightening the affects of the flu shot and allergies and the cold? Confused and frustrated. When should I expect to see a downward movement in my blood sugar readings? 180 target seems a long way off.
