I Am Building A Coffee Table And Want To Put

i am building a coffee table and want to put spindles on the ends, but i want to know the minimum distance between to spindles to keep a crawling baby from putting their head into the space? I was thinking 3.5 inches was the minimum gap to leave, but i cannot find that.
