Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i am male 74 years old, 10yr history of type 2 diabetes. weight 210 lbs height 6 feet. I am about 80% recovered from a multiple surgery on March 6 2016 involving a colon surgery for two early cancer spots in ascending colon(12 in section removed), gall bladders surgery ( this condition found on surgery workup but no symptoms were ever experienced prior), and a liver biopsy, spent next 80 days in hospital with very bad liver reaction to surgery and then 21 days in physical therapy hospital before discharge on June 18 to home health nurse which ended on Aug 1 2016. Physical therapy with PT person from discharge date to 1 Dec, Now i am in voluntary physical therapy or wellness program 3 times a week. 6 month surgery followup and mri are all clear with no cancer Peior to few days ago diabetes meds were 42 units of are lantus solastar now up to 65 units daily and novalog 21 units total daily taken split between 3 meal times but now up to 55 units. Lost control of blood sugar two days ago. Long term insulin and fast acting both suddenly seem less effective now. Before blood sugars were managed within a range of 90 to 230 at worst before. Now blood sugar spikes to 350-400 after eating. Blood sugar today 3.5 hours after meal was 322. Just took after one half (1/2) tablet of glipIzide 10 mg ER earlier prescribed to me when blood sugar was over 250 and I was not taking insulin but diabetes meds with metformin Past two days i spike after eating anything with spikes up to 350 two hours after meals. I feel I am taking too much more insulin over the last two days to force the BS back into at least the 200's and maybe i am becoming insulin resistant to what i am taking. I plan on calling primary care physician in the morning for an appointment tomorrow
