I Have A Scab On My Hip That I Got

i have a scab on my hip that i got from skateboarding, on the first day it was gooey so i kept it covered with a gauze pad during the day, at night i took it off and overnight it scabbed and remained so all day today up until 30 minutes ago skin started to fall of and the gooey layer was under. so i figured i had to shower and clean it and cover it with petroleum jelly. now that i look at it its pinkish red so what i want to know is if its infected?
