I Recently Received A Cortisone Steroid Injection In My Knee

i recently received a cortisone steroid injection in my knee for arthritis. the Pa said, little pinch after she numbed it. It was horrible pain, i screamed very loud. i was shocked by the needle pain. Is this normal? what signs should i look for it PA hit a nerve ?
