Is It Possible To Get An Infection In Your Arm

is it possible to get an infection in your arm or trauma to your nerve in your arm after having an iv in it for days in the hospital?? my arm is bruised on a spot beneath where they had the iv and its swelled there too I'm also getting sharp pains shooting up and down my whole arm. nothing I do takes it away, should I go to the emergency room?
