My 29 Year Old Son Presented With Psychosis And Severe
my 29 year old son presented with psychosis and severe depression in a matter of days starting in March. He was admitted to the hospital behavioral ward and spent ten days there. I started to do my own research and remembered back to his childhood when he battled asthma and HSP autoimmune disease and i realized that autoimmune encephalitis was a real posibility. My son was released from the hospital on risperidone and zoloft to bank down his symptoms. We then saw a neurologist in Pittsburgh in early May they did antibody blood work. It was sent to the Mayo Clinic. It confirmed that he had high antibodies. We had to wait two weeks which will finally be this thursday for an MRI with and without contrast. My son has been staying with us during this time. In the Past three days he is getting worse,he has increasing pressure in his head that is not relieved by any over the counter remedies. Since he left the hospital he has had daily de ja vu events that he will no longer talk about. Should we call the neurologist and ask them why we have to wait this long for these tests. Our son is a graduate of law school. This seems crazy to us that this wait is sound medicine. Our son was told not to drive he is no longer working, He stares off into space with a pained look longer every day and has to lay down several times a day because of his brain pressure. I have been battled autoimmune thyroid and after ten plus years i was finally diagnosed with IgG-4 disease which is somewhat controlled by rituxin chemo infusions. My very strong son wants us to just wait for these scheduled tests. We do not believe his brain is functioning properly to make the proper decisions at this time. He also has a rheumatology appointment five days after his MRI if they don't hospitalize him before that. He has not shown any physical signs other than he seems to walk slow and like a much older man Thanks, Susan
