My 9 Year Old Son Arrived From School With A

my 9 year old son arrived from school with a little ball like ( maybe cartilage ) on the left side of face near the lower jaw bone between the ear and mouth ..he said he feels a little pain when he applies pressure with fingers ....no injuries happened at school
any idea what could have caused this ?
