My Boyfriend Cut The Top Tip Of His Finger Into

my boyfriend cut the top tip of his finger into his fingernail over a month ago. it still looks pretty bad, red puffy and looks like it has a puss pocket under layers of skin. it is causing him survere pain . if i email you a picture, could u possibly tell me what your opinion is on what the emergency room will do if he were to agree to go? (surgery,ect.)
