My Friend Is 64, Male, Takes Blood Pressure Pill, Drinks

my friend is 64, male, takes blood pressure pill, drinks 3 24 oz. beers daily & has liver disease in his family. he also suffers from anxiety with racing heart-made worse recently due to stress @ work & in marriage. lately he's had swelling of ankles & lower leg. an exam for life insurance revealed protein in urine & questionable ekg. sadly he rarely tells his dr. about all of his health issues. are these symptoms of approaching death? what can we do about this?
