My Granddaughter's Eyes Frequently Appear Off Set Or Not Lined

my granddaughter's eyes frequently appear off set or not lined up accurately. Both eyes seem to wander off to the side from time to time, but not at the same time. Usually , at least one eye will be straight and the other eye off to the side. But both eyes do this wandering thing. Is this a genetic condition, as one of my sisters as well as my father had this same condition.
