My Husband, Almost 80 Yrs. Old Has Had Loose Bowel

my husband, almost 80 yrs. old has had loose bowel movements for about 6 weeks. About a week ago he also started to have blood show. I think there is reason for concern. I have finally talked him into making an appt. for a colonoscapy(sp). Do you think this is the correct avenue to take?
