My Husband Has A Tooth That Needs To Be Extracted

my husband has a tooth that needs to be extracted but the dentist will not touch it until his blood pressure comes down. In the office it was 168/111, that was yesterday, to day I have been checking it and it has been 158/106, 138/104, 148/103, 138/93, 138/96, and 158/104. His tooth is causing alot of pain and the dentist gave him penicillin and hydrocodone 5/325. He had a physical for work 2 mths ago and his pressure was 138/80 which is about his normal. Is the pain causing his diastolic pressure to be so high or is something else causing it? The pain medicine is only taking the edge of fyi.
Thanks
concerned wife
