My Knee Hurts When Bending Or Flexing. It Is Stiff

my knee hurts when bending or flexing. it is stiff when I get up from sitting or laying position for period of time. the pain is behind the knee or where the knee bends like it is swollen behind but not visibly swollen. will this respond to over the counter meds ? this just began a week ago.
