My Nine Year Old Is To Start On Azathioprine. He

my nine year old is to start on Azathioprine. He has UC. he was diagnosed December 2014 and it flared again march 2015 after 2nd course of medication. Doctors now want to put him on Azathioprine because they dont want another flare up. is there another way?. i fear the side effects.
