My Son Had A Cyst Removed From A Hole Next

my son had a cyst removed from a hole next to his ear when he was 7 years old. He is eighteen now and the area where the cyst was is now filled with my guess (inflammation). did I do something that cause this to happen or will this keep refilling as he continues to grow. are they dangerous to his health
