One Of My Fingernails Is Split From The Base To

one of my fingernails is split from the base to the tip and there is a visible line showing. when it's grown out a bit it is split and very painful if touched, (It feels like nerve endings are moved or touched). My solution has been false fingernails this allows the nail to grow some but that nail comes off if it gets too long. Is my solution acceptable or is there another solution. I am disabled and this is the only hand I have. help
