The Whites Of My Eyes Have Been Extremely Red For

the whites of my eyes have been extremely red for the past 2 to 3 days. They only slightly burn but they do not itch nor are they swollen. They continue to water constantly. What could this be? Eye drops dont seem to be working and neither does applying a cold compress. Any advice?
