What Causes Recurring Back Ache?

Hi. Every now and then I can't go because I suddenly develop lower back pain and each time I move I just about scream. If I lay in bed for a day in a fetal position it will eventually get better. I take ibuprofen for the pain. The pain eventually moves up my back just kind of grabbing my sides. What could this be?
