Quite satisfied with the answers....but I was more interested to know about the effect of medicines in use on uric acid levels. When I scanned the literature I found that use of thiazide diuretics can increase uric acid levels which was happening in my wife case also......

His advice was right on target! I took the anti-inflammitory and elevated my hand. I also iced it and the swelling has reduced. It does feel hotter in the swelling area, but the pain has abated and I intend to follow-up with my doctor if it doesn't continue to improve. Thank you, Dr. Singh
