You might have heard of Mephedrone, also known as 4-methylmethcathinone (4-MMC) – a highly addictive drug. This drug has been banned in many countries because of the serious damage it can inflict upon the mind and body of a person using it. This is regardless of the fact that the user may be a hard core drug addict or simply an unsuspecting person who is being drugged against his/her will, for unethical purposes. Mephedrone is popularly called ‘the meow meow drug’. This is actually a street slang for it, and no one is quite sure why this name was given to this drug.
What are the effects of this drug?
Mephedrone creates a state of mind that can be described by any anonymous user as creating illusions of love and sexual intimacy between total strangers.
This is the same effect that the illegal street drug, popularly called Ecstasy – colloquially known as ‘the love drug’ or ‘the hug drug’ illustrates. Mephedrone also resembles another drug called ‘speed’ – that’s Dexedrine – a drug of addiction. People who consume these drugs on a long term basis develop serious mental health issues. Mephedrone has the combined capability of all these drugs put together.
Medical researchers have clearly stated that “…this agent has never been tested on guinea pigs and mice… let alone humans.”
Does Mephedrone have any positive uses?
Oh yes! It does. In the right hands, it could be used by medical scientists as a method of creating a model of mental illnesses, triggered by artificial means. The military could use Mephedrone to inactivate and incapacitate enemy combatants. Arguably, Mephedrone is a gold mine, rather like atomic energy, which can be used for hundreds of creative purposes, even in saving lives. However, when we think of atomic energy, we think about nuclear weapons, death and destruction; in a way like Mephedrone.
