When headache is chronic and debilitating, a neurological disorder that is moderate to severe in intensity without any exact reason, it is most often labelled as migraine.

It is estimated that the prevalence of migraine is 15% to 20% amongst the world’s population and this is growing day by day. Often, these headaches are pulsating, wandering from one part of the head to another. • Watch out for certain food additives that trigger migraine attacks while you dine at an unknown place, especially MSU, tartarzine, aspartamine.
  • Too much of coffee, over 300mg per day, or too much of exercise that can fatigue you and can trigger an attack and your day would be wasted without any productive work.
  • A drop in blood sugar levels is a very common trigger for migraine. Hence, choose to have food with low glycemic index like vegetables and fruits.
  • Dehydration is the first thing a doctor checks if you walk into his clinic, hence try to consume as much water as possible and cut down on caffeinated drinks.

Similarly there are certain home remedies that can control the severity of migraine. Some of them are discussed here and can be of help to you.

  • Chew ginger as soon as you know that an attack is foreseen
  • Gentle pressure over the area of pain or a subtle massage to the neck muscles can relieve the pain
  • Supplement food with serotonin and magnesium as they are found to be low in migraine sufferers
  • Yoga eases stress, makes you calm and rejuvenates the fatigue muscles
  • Set aside one hour for mild to moderate exercise every day or something that will actually relax you like watching a favorite TV show or reading a book

This will reduce the impact of an unpleasant situation that you come across during the day and reduce the chances of a migraine attack.
