A strong drink is almost always followed by hangover next morning. Symptoms include headache, nausea, vomiting, and thirst, dryness of mouth, tremors, dizziness, fatigue and muscle cramps. The cause is deranged hormones. There would be excessive urination and resulting dehydration that will worsen the symptoms. Though the symptoms may be reduced by taking precautions, but time is the best healer.

People have come up with many ways to reduce the dreaded headache, some of which are numbered below:

  1. Pay attention to the type and amount of alcohol ingested. Clear drinks like white rum, vodka, gin may produce mild hangover. The concentration of alcohol in the drinks may vary. The same amount of drink may have different amount of alcohol in it.
  2. Take pain-killers judiciously. Paracetamol may affect liver in the presence of alcohol. Aspirin may irritate the stomach and worsen alcohol induced gastritis. A tablet of ibuprofen may be taken in the morning.
  3. Sugar containing foods and fatty foods ease hangover. Before drinking go for a hearty meal. Take high sugar foods in the morning.
  4. Dehydration and electrolytes should be corrected. Drink water after each vomiting and urination. Also drink water before going to bed. Drinking lemonade eases the hangover next morning.
  5. Coffee and tea are diuretics and may worsen the hangover. Avoid them.
  6. Juice is also good. Vitamin C gives you the required nutrition.
  7. Honey will soothe your dry throat.

While the research on this topic is limited and there's no one solution to fix all the symptoms of a hangover. Avoiding alcohol is the best solution.
