Somehow my question got erased. My question is:
I'm having Pus Pimples on my head and am getting them very regularly. Though I do head bath ever day I face this problem constantly. I consulted few doctors in the last 3 years but the problem did not go. Have been asked to use Ketoconazole 2% every time I visit them, but the problem still persists.

Brief Answer:
It seems acne

Detailed Answer:
Hi again
Thanks for posting your query.

This seems to be acne. Ketoconazole works if there is dandruff or fungal overgrowth. Since its not working, it means that its not a fungus. Its rather a bacterial infection causing scalp acne, and hormonal changes related to young age may play a role. Antibiotics are usually not effective in scalp acne.

My recommendations are as follows
- Benzoyl peroxide cream specifically on the rash. If this does not work then stronger antibiotic like clindamycin or retinoids maybe tried
- Avoid shampooing the hair daily as it washes out the scalp oil and normal flora. Twice a week is good enough.
- Avoi dusing hasrh chemicals on scalp like hair dyes, medicated shampoos etc. You may use milder routine shampoos.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
Apply on the acne

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

It can be cumbersome to apply on whole head. I will suggest that you apply in on acne that have pus.

You can apply upto 2 times a day for 1 week.

By mild shampoo I meant routine shampoos like pantene, tresemme, L'oreal etc. Avoid medicated shampoos that contain special chemicals or medicines like ketoconazole etc.

One last question.
- Do I need to wash my hair before/after applying the cream ?

Answered by Dr. Vaishalee Punj (7 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Wash hair twice a week

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Wash your hair twice a week. Apply a drop of cream on the acne. It dries out and removes by itself. No need to wash before or after as such. Washing after applying will wash away the medicine also so do not wash right after applying. Allow it to be on for atleast 8 hrs.
