Question: 3 years ago I went to a dentist because I had a swollen vein on my cheek (lack of better description) they didn't know what it was and sent me to a ENT. the ENT was much the same they sent me to an Oral surgen that said it looked cosmetic but to keep an eye on it and if it gets bigger or changes we should check again. well all this time has passed and just now the buldge has gotten worse. it has grown to at least twice its size and hurts when I smile. I feel hopless about this as I haven't gotten a real answer to what it is and now its scarring me.

Brief Answer:
Please upload an image of the swelling or bulge

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for using the Ask a Doctor service.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. However, the description does not provide the full picture. I would insist you to upload an image of the affected area. You can upload the attachments using the facility on the upper right of this page. Alternatively you can email the attachments to YYYY@YYYY with the query id 376246 and my name mentioned in the subject.

I would await your response.

Brief Answer:
Thanks for uploading the image

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for attaching the image. It did get attached. Pardon me for the inadvertent delay in responding.

I have checked the attached image and can see that there is a venous proliferation in the inner aspect of your cheek. It could be a hemangioma but hard to comment without being able to closely examine it. Anyway, let me assure you that it is benign although it does have the capacity to expand further (does not mean that it would). I understand that it hurts or is uncomfortable but I do not think that an intervention would be convenient. It an be cauterized or sealed by laser but I am not sure if it would be less uncomfortable. You can get it evaluated by a surgeon (cosmetic surgeon or plastic surgeon would be a better idea) but I doubt if it is needed.

Regards
