Question : 30m - Almost every time I go to sleep, I wake up in the middle of the night with the blood having pooled to one side of my body - depending on the position in which I’m sleeping. It seems to be particularly dependent on the position of my neck. I think my waking up is my bodies response to major organs (ie brain) needing more blood. When I sit up, I can feel the blood “free up” and disperse to the other side of my body (head arm leg etc). There is clearly something going on with my circulation that I think may be related to blood clots. I have a few superficial lumps along a vein in my arms. I have always been suspicious these could be blood clots but have never had them checked out. Does this sound like a blood clot issue. Is it possible it could be related specifically to an issue with my neck despite it impacting my entire body?
Brief Answer:
More a problem of venous insufficiency.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service.
I have read your query.
More than blood clot issues, your concerns may be linked with venous insufficiency.
The neck positions are not related to any blood circulation of the body, usually, if there is a problem with the neck that compromises the blood flow, the problems are located to the head and brain.
A Doppler ultrasound of your vessels of the extremities may give valuable information about the correct cause.
Discuss with your Doctor for these issues.
