Question : 37 year old female known case of bilteral Retinitis Pigmentosa. On exam, VA 6/9, N6 both eyes. Heaviness and night blindness.IOC wnl. Please confirm the prognosis from the insurance company perspective and ongoing treatment.

hey thanks for the question. Till now there is no proven treatment for Retinitis pigmentosa unfortunately but we can delay the progression of the disease with caretenoids tablets and also low vision aida can be used to help the patient because usually central vision is retained till the end . They are at high risk of developing cataract and glaucoma so frequent check up by an ophthalmologist is necessary like in every 6 months . As it is a genetic disease other family members need to be checked too . hope my answer helps you . Regards .
