80 Year Old Dad In Hospice Has Extreme Discomfort From

Question: 80 year old dad in hospice has extreme discomfort from an abscess infection on buttock near anus. He is likely not going to be with us that much longer, but we are at least trying to make things somewhat comfortable for him. He can’t stop twisting and turning and keeps putting his hand in the region where it’s hurting him. I would like to recommend to the nurse/dr here if they can give him some sort of local anesthesia or numbing agent just to comfort him in that region. Can a recommendation be made?
Brief Answer:
He needs to use some medications (NSAI drugs) .

Hello and welcome in"Ask a Doctor".
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Based on the fact that your father has a lot of pain because of the abscess near the anus I think he needs to use some medications (NSAI drugs) like ibuprofen, or tramadol or artrosilen in the suppository form or IM injection.
I suggest to speak with a surgeon in order to drain the abscess as soon as possible because this could be an emergency(fasceitis).
Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.
