Question : A 57 male was on mild diabetes medicine for two years. After feeling fever he was tested for ferritin and ALT on Sunday and they were 270 and 110. On Tuesday his readings were 580 and 200 and the AST reads 190 too. Thus is was diagnosed covid though the ct is ckear.
His liver was normal size 18 months ago with mild fat cells and now enlarged with infiltration of fat. My questions are about the state in general and the liver especially
Could it be transient due to covid?
Could it be reversed?
Is it serious?

Hello and thank you for choosing "Ask a Doctor" service for your query.
Have seen your details and i appreciate your concerns.
Yes elevation of liver enzymes with infection is common and if recovery from corona virus infection is fine then liver function would return to normal in few weeks/months.
Its fully reversible.
No not serious until and unless complications of covid are associated.
All he would need is a diet rich in complex carbohydrate for recovery of liver functions.
Hope i was helpful.
Wish him a quick recovery from covid.
Follow ups are welcome.
Thanks!
