Question : Abdomen pain
1. Bilateral pain (cramping pain that is sore to the touch) see pic. 5 on a 1-10 scale for pain. Been there for 3 days

2. Upper left quadrant pain. Only occurred once but for 45 mins.

Background :

I’ve been having pelvic pain. Also i have some stomach pain due to IBS. I also have acid reflux.
I’m concerned because the new pain near the belly button is new. Any suggestions ? Imaging?

Blood work 3 weeks ago was normal. This started 3 days ago.

Brief Answer:
Need few more details dear.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for choosing Ask a Doctor service for your query,
Have seen your details and the picture attached,
Most likely cause could be inflammation in intestines and therefore the pain is bilateral,
Would suggest you initially to go for a ultrasound scan of abdomen; In case Diverticulitis is suspected a CT scan of abdomen should be done.
As per the markings the pain is below belly button and the structure located there is intestine therefore would suggest you to go for scan.
Need few more details-
Have you tried any anti inflammatory or antispasmodics?
What medicines are you taking for IBS?
Nature of stool and consistency?
Number of motions per day?
Is Acid peptic disorder in control?

Please reply.

I haven’t tried anti inflammatory for this issue yet.

1. I went to the urgent care. I received bloodwork, ultrasound and an X-ray. Nothing abnormal.

2. Constipation lately. Normal day i go once or twice. Lately just once per day but a strain.

3. No medicines currently for ibs. Strict diet typically has it under control

4. Acid reflux is not under control i have been taking omezerprole.

5. Pain in upper left abdomen as well

6. Doctor said it could be a virus of the gastro that would resolve in 10 days

7. Pain has remained consistent. No fever. No vomiting.

Questions.
A. Would the ultrasound show diverticulitis?
B. Is a ct scan still needed?
