Question : I am looking to understand what I see in a medical report: Abdominal Ultrasound, where liver, gallbladder, pancreas and spleen are normal, but there is "a mild fullness of the proximal right ureter which measures up to 7mm in diameter . . . findings may be physiologic XXXXXXX Report was ordered when male reported being kicked in the privates. Test ordered 14 days after the alleged event.

Hello,
The history of trauma that you give doesnt co-relate directly with the report.Being kicked in the genital area wont have any direct effect on the renal area. The finding on the ultrasound that the upper abdomen is normal and all major organs are normal. On the other hand,the fullness seen on the ureter may be physiologic,as suggested, but any pathological cause has to be ruled out first. This may indicate hydronephrosis,or a possibile calculi, or a swelling. Best way to confirm would be an xray. The patient should drink plenty of water,so that if its a small stone,it can pass through. I suggest a follow up xray after 2 weeks.
