Unless the kidneys are not functioning well, they will always take care of any water excesses and you need not see a doctor for this. There is no reason to worry about this. A simply way to tell is to monitor your weight and see if there are any rapid changes. Generally, overnight increases of more than 3pounds is consistent with abnormal fluid retention.
