Brief Answer:
Stop any alcohol intake, regular exercise and weight loss!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this diagnosis. It is mostly linked to your weight. You should not be concerned because after reviewing the results, this seems to be the only off results. Diet changes with no alcohol, foods rich in fiber, vegetables and fruits, decreased fats intake all accompanied by regular exercise of at least 150mins/week will help towards this goal. Also, work on reducing your weight as this is also more than the recommended weight and contributes so much to this. These measures will help reduce the amount of fats in your body and address this issue. we will follow up with a control of liver enzymes in 3months and any more changes would be recommended then.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.

Hi Dr. Ditah,

Thank you so very much for your answer. I am more determined than ever now to lose the weight. I have been struggling with many aspects of health namely sleep apea and weight gain possibly related to the Seroquel and Loxapine I currently take for Bi-Polar.

Do you think the Seroquel or Loxapine could be contributing to the raised ALT?

You have made me feel alot better and just being able to tell someone who is qualified to give me a proper answer with some clear direction, other than just aimlessly searching the internet lol!

Thank you again,

Brief Answer:
For how long have you been taking Seroquel?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this follow up question.

Seroquel can cause elevated liver enzymes. However, this only happens within a month of starting treatment and rapidly returns to normal. If you have been taking this drug for long, it is unlikely to be a cause. If you however just started it, it will be a possible cause.

Keep me updated as you go through the diet and lifestyle modifications as well as battle with dropping some weight. I wish you we’ll and hope to hear from you.

Brief Answer:
A very long time!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

It takes a very long time for fatty liver to progress. If you embark on these changes and weight gain, you will significantly retard and maybe reverse any changes. Keep me posted with your progress.

I wish you well.
