Question: Hello Doc, i am eating Gemcal, Calcirol and Bicosul from last 3 months as i was diagnosed with Vit D defficiency, I also added natural suppliments by Amway - Cal Mag D and Slmon Omega 3 which helped me a great deal, however not sure if i should continue while i am now TTC? i stoped all of them for a week and the pain in my bones came back. Please help.

Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM,

As you have been diagnosed with Vitamin D deficiency, ideally you should be given vitamin d supplements as well along with calcium and calcitriol tabs. The daily dose of vitamin d3 should be about 400iu.

You may continue these medications safely for another month and get a serum calcium and vitamin d levels done again before omitting them, as in many cases vitamin d deficiency per se has been noted to be a cause for primary infertility in many.

you may add tab folic acid 5mg daily hence as its a preconceptions medication to be started at least 3 months prior from the time of planned month for pregnancy.
