Question : Hello. I've been having symptoms off and on of what I think is acid reflux--chest discomfort, heartburn, etc. How can I tell that I'm not having a heart issue?

Very difficult to differentiate on the basis of symptoms only.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

At the age of 59, it's very difficult to differentiate a case just on the basis of symptoms. Both cardiac and gastric cases have the same set of overlapping problem.

So the best way is to get a 2d echo test done if its ok pain is gastric.

Otherwise whenever next time burning happens to take 2 tablets of omeprazole antacid and wait for 20 minutes if pain burning etc does not respond to it go for 2d echo asap.
