Are Anemia, Sore Throat And Intermittent Fatigue Symptoms Of HIV?

Posted on Fri, 23 Jan 2015
Question: Hi doctor,

I had unprotected oral sex and protected vaginal sex with 2 prostitutes a year ago. Currently I am having persistent sore throat for 3 months, not going away with antibiotics. My head sweats excessively only while eating. My legs are also paining while I walk and have fatigue sometimes. I have a small swollen lymph node on right side of my neck. I had recently had a cbc checkup. The doctors have diagnosed anemia with low mch mcv values. All wbc, platelet and lymphocytes counts are fine. Are all these related to hiv/aids..?

Brief Answer:
get HIV test done

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir, I understand your health concerns.
It cannot be certainly designated to HIV infection by just this vague symptomatology.
Get an HIV test done as soon as possible in a nearby center.
In case negative then start taking iron tablets and increase the intake of green leafy vegetables and dry fruits.
Hope for the best

Dear doctor,

I have started taking vitamin and iron tablets. I stay in middleeast and its difficult testing here, if I am diagnosed positive, I would be deported. I have lost a little bit of fat from hands too as I see my bracelet and watch getting loose. Well just wanted to know my chances on hiv diagnosis.

Well my overall weight has increased.

Brief Answer:
cannot be diagnosed clinically

Detailed Answer:
Usually weight changes are not there in hiv/253657?iL=true" >AIDS and thus are not related.
HIV usually presents late and cannot be diagnosed clinically.
All you can do is to visit your home country and then get the test there whenever possible.
Take care
