Question : I have a sore throat and a hacking cough. I've had it for 6 days. I have the chills, but I don't have a fever. Do I need an antibiotic? I am tired and this cough is getting the best of me. I have curtailed my activities.
Brief Answer:
There is no clear indication for antibiotics at this time!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.
I have reviewed your information fully and this is clearly an upper respiratory tract infections caused by viruses. Viral infections resolve spontaneously and generally do not require antibiotics. I will not request for any at this time.
I ask that you continue with Nyquil. Tylenol for ache would be helpful too. Eating healthy, drinking much water and getting enough rest are highly recommended.
I hope this guides and helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me on your progress as well as request for more information and clarifications if need be.
