Are Breathing Difficulty, Fluid In Lungs And Wheezing Symptoms Of COPD?

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Jul 2015
Question: I have bronchitis but I think it goes deeper than than. I have to use a steroid enhaler everyday otherwise I can barely breath and my lungs or chest filled with fluid and the wheezing is terrible. When I'm not sick the same applies minus the bronchitis. I am a smoker of over 20 years. I've quit for a few years I between. Should I be concerned this is more than allergies set off causing asthma. Like COPD or emphysema?

Brief Answer:
Yes possibility of COPD is more.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, possibility of COPD (chronic obstructive Pulmonary disease) is high in your case.
And it is common in smokers.
So better to consult pulmonologist and get done
1. Clinical examination of respiratory system
2. Chest x ray
3. PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Chest x ray is needed to rule out lung infection.
PFT is must for the diagnosis of COPD.
It will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment is based on severity only.
So get done PFT and start appropriate treatment.
You may require additional inhaled bronchodilators.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
